About SPCA International

The mission of SPCA International is to raise the awareness of the abuse of animals to a global level, to eradicate the euthanasia of healthy and adoptable companion animals and to mount efforts to enhance animal welfare throughout the world.

We accomplish this mission by working both independently and together with local SPCA organizations in all countries.

Some of the programs that achieve our mission:

· The International Foster Family program will operate as a link between shelters and potential foster families.

Every day humane societies receive animals that, because of a lack of space, special needs, or the potential of contagion, cannot be sheltered. If no temporary home is found, the only option for these animals is euthanasia. The program allows any shelter worldwide to post specific foster criteria and provides these shelters with contact information for potential foster families. It will serve to alleviate the daily burden on shelters as well as save countless lives in case of a natural disaster or other catastrophe.

·The International Vet Student Exchange program will facilitate and sponsor young veterinary students from industrialized nations to volunteer their time and energy in third world countries.

The program will encompass animal control services, spay and neuter programs, and educating the public towards responsible pet ownership. In its first year, applications will be accepted from North American Veterinarians and Veterinary students. Teams of three to four applicants will travel to participating countries during their summer term. While the program will initially be limited to one team per country, over time it will be increased to multiple teams per nation, as well as expanding to accept applicants from around the world and to offer several annual travel periods.

· The International Animal Disaster Volunteer program will link the community of animal lovers worldwide. In case of disaster it will serve as a contact database, allowing shelters to efficiently contact and dispatch volunteers.

· SPCA International's Shelter Subsidy program will assist with the creation of spay and neuter programs, the reduction of euthanasia rates in shelters worldwide and the providing of general financial assistance to shelters in dire need.

· SPCA International will also provide a global information and referral resource to animal owners and advocates throughout the world who seek a shelter or wish to adopt a shelter animal, who have questions about animals, or who wish to join with like-minded animal welfare advocates to raise awareness and end cruelty to animals.
