It was the Fall 2006; I accompanied my secretary Rosemary to our local SPCA shelter in Bonita, Ca. to look for a white poodle she wanted to adopt. As I helped her look through the kennels, this little Chihuahua barked at me and wigged her tail, she looked so cute, so I inquired about her.
The lady at the reception told me that no one wanted to adopt the nine year old sick Chihuahua. Something came over me and I told her I would adopt her. I filled out the paper work and as I finished, she asked me if I already had met her... I said "no".
She called one of the volunteers to bring her to me. The volunteer brought her out and as she was handing her to me, she said ... well, you know that all her teeth are putrid, and most of them had to be pulled out, her hair has fallen of because of malnutrition and the left back leg has to be amputated.
I was in disbelief for a few seconds; then the volunteers asked me if I still wanted to adopt her. I replied with a firm "absolutely".
Pinky has enriched my life. She is ten years old now, lives along with Isabella (a baby Basset Hound), Chiqui, 13 years old (Chihuahua mix) and Pinky goes up and down the stairs many times a day.
The great news is Pinky has kept her leg - with a little acupuncture help and lots of love from me and my family.
Do you have a success story?
