Love animals but can’t make a long term commitment?

Many animals that come to the Montreal SPCA need just a bit of extra time and care in someone’s home before they are ready to be put up for adoption. We can help these animals find good homes – if we have a bit of help from you first!

We urgently need responsible people to:

  • Keep one or more animals in your home for a period of 1 month.
  • Provide all the care you would give a pet of your own.

The Montreal SPCA will provide all the necessary veterinary care (medication, check-ups, etc.) for the duration of the foster period as well some basic equipment; such as a transporter for cats and a leash and collar for dogs. Our personnel will work with you to decide who you can help best, and will be a phone call away if you have questions or need advice.

Here is a list of the animals that need a foster home right now:

Why do some animals need a foster family?
Some animals have special needs that cannot be met in our shelter. Foster homes provide quarantine for vulnerable or contagious animals and a home environment with the one-on-one care that they need.

What kinds of animals need fostering?**

  • Orphaned kittens under the age of 2 months requiring intensive care
  • Nursing cats with their litters of kittens
  • Cats and dogs with minor injuries or treatable illnesses
  • Cats and dogs with special needs

** Over 75% of our need is for cats and most of the dogs are large breeds.
