Montreal, March 27, 2015<\/b> \u2013 This morning, the Montreal SPCA announced its official grand opening of the Mittens-Montreal SPCA Targeted Permanent Sterilization Clinic (Gabrielle Carri\u00e8re, chief veterinarian). <\/i>This clinic is a proactive initiative to tackle Quebec\u2019s pet overpopulation problem by offering sterilization services at reduced rates for pet guardians with limited financial resources.<\/p>\n

At the grand opening event, the Montreal SPCA was delighted by the presence and participation of Mr. Russell Copeman, Montreal City Councillor and the borough mayor for C\u00f4te-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grace<\/i>. Our clinic was made possible thanks to a generous anonymous donor and was named after her beloved cat Mittens. The medical equipment was offered in memory of Fluffster, her other adored cat.<\/p>\n

This clinic provides low-cost sterilization for cats and dogs and is intended for a target clientele, such as people with low income. As we only offer sterilization, the first set of\u00a0vaccines and a deworming treatment, our rates are lower than those of a veterinary clinic or hospital. \u201cEnabling pet guardians with limited resources to have access to sterilization is a critical step in controlling pet overpopulation in Quebec\u201d said Dr. Gabrielle Carri\u00e8re, chief veterinarian at the Montreal SPCA. \u201cThis clinic will certainly contribute to the enhancement of animal welfare in the province\u201d, she adds.<\/p>\n

Our clinic has been granted with all requisite authorization from the Ordre des m\u00e9decins v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaires du Qu\u00e9bec (Quebec Veterinary Medical Association).<\/p>\n
