In order to proceed with this reform, Mr. Paradis reached an agreement with the Minister of Justice, St\u00e9phanie Vall\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Paradis\u2019 announcement comes in response to the <a href=\"http:\/\/animalsarenotobjects.ca\/\"><i>Animals are not things<\/i><\/a> manifesto, which was launched on January 22<sup>nd<\/sup> and has been signed by over 46\u00a0000 people. The manifesto, which is supported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spca.com\/?lang=en\">Montreal SPCA<\/a>, calls for a reconsideration of the legal status of animals in the Civil Code of Quebec. Currently, our Civil Code considers animals to be moveable property, indistinguishable from a toaster or a chair.
