Montreal, June 16, 2014 \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Today, the\u00a0Animal Legal Defense Fund<\/em><\/a>\u00a0(ALDF) released its 2014 provincial animal welfare legislation rankings. Quebec once again falls in second to last place, upholding Quebec\u2019s reputation\u00a0 as being \u201cthe best province to be\u00a0 an animal abuser\u201d for a third year in a row. However, the\u00a0Montreal SPCA<\/a>\u00a0remains hopeful that with the appointment of Pierre Paradis as the new\u00a0Ministre de l\u2019Agriculture, des P\u00eacheries et de l\u2019Alimentation<\/a>, things are starting to look up for the animals of Quebec. Despite Quebec having made significant changes to its provincial animal welfare legislation and accompanying regulations from 2011 to 2013, there are still important improvements that need to be made in order to provide adequate protection to animals in this province. \u201cWe are encouraged by Minister Paradis\u2019 commitment to rectifying Quebec\u2019s reputation when it comes to animal protection\u201d said Alanna Devine, Director of Animal Advocacy at the Montreal SPCA. \u201cWe believe that we are on the verge of seeing real changes for animals in this province, and we look forward to working with Minister Paradis and his team to help bring about these changes\u201d.<\/p>\n
