Montr\u00e9al, August 31, 2021 \u2013 <\/strong>Older dogs at the Montreal SPCA have something to wag about this summer. The Grey\u00a0Muzzle\u00a0Organization<\/a>, a non-profit that improves the lives of senior dogs, announced the Montreal SPCA as the first recipient in Canada <\/strong>of its annual grant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of 77 animal welfare groups selected among 266 applicants, the Montreal SPCA received the funding to help senior dogs in Montr\u00e9al. In all, Grey Muzzle granted more than $616,000 to ensure the care and improve the lives of older dogs in communities across North America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Already, many dogs at the Montreal SPCA are benefiting from Grey Muzzle\u2019s support. This is Puppy\u2019s case. Despite his moniker, Puppy is a senior dog of 12 who was brought to the shelter displaying several health concerns, including skin cancer and an irreversible kidney problem. This aging dog was an ideal candidate for the SPCA\u2019s Compassion Program because, with the necessary care he is receiving from our veterinary team, he could still have good quality of life. Indeed, the Program places animals still able to enjoy life, despite their advanced age or incurable pathologies, in foster homes. There, they can happily live out their final golden days, while our teams provide them with palliative care. Puppy is currently living his best life with his loving foster family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTo care for senior animals, the SPCA\u2019s Compassion Program requires ongoing material, human and financial resources. Grey Muzzle helps us provide senior dogs, like Puppy, with the veterinary and dental care they need to live happily in their permanent foster homes. We are grateful for Grey Muzzle\u2019s help,\u201d said Jessica Nichol, Animal Welfare Program Manager at the Montreal SPCA. \u201cTheir invaluable support allows older dogs to get a well-deserved second chance,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThanks to the generosity of our donors, we\u2019re delighted to help deserving organizations, like the Montreal SPCA, make a difference in the lives of dogs and people in their communities,\u201d Grey Muzzle\u2019s executive director Lisa Lunghofer said. \u201cMany senior dogs in Montr\u00e9al are enjoying their golden years in loving homes thanks to the wonderful work of the Montreal SPCA.\u201d Over the past 13 years, the non-profit Grey Muzzle Organization has granted more than $3.1M to support its vision of \u201ca world where no old dog dies alone and afraid.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
