{"id":475,"date":"2017-03-23T20:30:03","date_gmt":"2017-03-24T00:30:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spcablog.com\/?p=475"},"modified":"2018-06-26T12:40:25","modified_gmt":"2018-06-26T16:40:25","slug":"eclipses-story-a-laboratory-animal-for-four-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spca.com\/en\/eclipses-story-a-laboratory-animal-for-four-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Eclipse\u2019s story, a laboratory animal for four years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">Many people were shocked by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcanimal.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Last Chance for Animals<\/a>\u2019 footage which was shot at ITR Canada, a research laboratory in Montreal and recently shown on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/w5\/undercover-investigation-reveals-what-goes-on-inside-montreal-animal-research-lab-1.3320123\" target=\"_blank\">CTV\u2019s W5<\/a>. Amongst the animals subject to ill treatments are beagle-type dogs. In fact, beagles are commonly used for animal experimentation. Sadly, their small size and their very docile temperament make them ideal candidates to undergo various tests \u2013 whether in the pharmaceutical, medical or cosmetic field.<\/p>\n<h4>Eclipse is one of them.<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">Prior to being rescued in 2010 by Carolane, a Montreal SPCA employee, this little dog had been used as a \u2018guinea pig\u2019 during her first four years of life. Her days consisted of being anesthetized, force-fed pills and injected with various drugs. Life in a laboratory is a routine of hell for these animals; confined in their cage, they are deprived of any physical and mental stimulation throughout their short life. The majority of these animals will only know a life of suffering; they will never see daylight, be able to play, be loved, or enjoy the comfort of a real home. Rather, most of the animals who survive these tests are euthanized after a few months or years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-531 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/compassioneng.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/03\/eclipse_caro.jpg\" alt=\"Eclipse_caro\" width=\"238\" height=\"356\" \/>Luckily, this wasn\u2019t Eclipse\u2019s destiny, as she was fortunate to have been saved through a special program, and was quickly adopted by Carolane and her family. \u201cUpon arriving home, Eclipse wouldn\u2019t stop rolling around in the grass, and she just wanted to be held in my arms!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">Although her adoption brought the family great joy, they also encountered many challenges along the way. Despite that Eclipse integrated very well with the other animals in the household, she remained anxious. Leaves falling from trees, cars and stairs would scare her. Housebreaking was also a big challenge to overcome; in fact, it took two years before Eclipse would do her business outside. With hard work and dedication, Carolane and her husband succeeded in training her. \u201cShe\u2019s so brave and she always has such a big smile!
