Barn Cat Adoption Program

Do you live in the country and have a stable, barn, warehouse or other outbuilding?

Consider adopting one or more barn cats! The Montréal SPCA takes in thousands of cats each year and places them in new homes adapted to their needs. Although most are adopted by families and adapt well to living in houses and apartments, many of our feline residents don’t enjoy living indoors with humans. They prefer to live in a stable, barn, at a farm, or even in a warehouse. Unaccustomed to humans, these cats are already familiar with this type of environment and would enjoy a very good quality of life there.

Barn cats bring life to your place and may even give you a “helping paw” by keeping critters away.

The Program places these felines with people who will ensure their well-being. These caretakers provide a safe environment, as well as food, water, veterinary care, and protection from the elements.

The Montréal SPCA absorbs the adoption fees for cats in the Program. All of our barn cats are examined, spayed or neutered, vaccinated (basic vaccines and against rabies) and microchipped by our veterinary team.

Please note that our barn cats are not listed on the SPCA’s general adoption page. If your application is accepted, we will contact you to match you with one or more cats who fit your profile. Thank you for your interest in providing a home for our barn cats!
