They need care,

we need your help

Animal welfare depends on basic veterinary care

When an animal falls ill or is injured and in pain, the cost of veterinary care can quickly become out of reach for some families. Heartbreaking questions are asked: wait and watch my companion suffer? Go into debt and compromise my financial stability, or say goodbye too soon? No one should have to make that choice.

The Montreal SPCA’s Community Veterinary Clinic will provide basic, low-cost medical care to animals who would not otherwise get the medical attention they need. As inflation continues to impact families, the clinic is expected to meet an even greater need.

After overcoming many challenges along the way, we are now ready to invite you to be part of this major project, which is truly a step forward for animal welfare.

Donations will be matched for a limited time only!

Animal welfare is closely connected to the accessibility of veterinary care.
To kick off this ambitious project, the Fondation Ranger-Doyle will be matching every donation received before April 12, 2026.* Don’t miss this opportunity to double the impact of your generosity!

*Up to a total of $20,000 in donations.

Violet’s heart

Last February, Melanie came to the shelter in despair with her cat Violet, who was lethargic and refusing to eat. Everyone has money problems at one time or another. It was this family’s turn: they were unable to afford an emergency surgery at a private clinic. With a heavy heart, Melanie surrendered Violet to us, in the hope we’d save her companion’s life.

All of Violet’s symptoms pointed to a foreign object in her digestive system, a diagnosis quickly confirmed by X-ray. But what our veterinary team wasn’t expecting to see on the screen was a heart! That’s right: a heart, right there in Violet’s belly, on the day before Valentine’s Day! Violet was quickly prepped for surgery, and the “foreign heart,” which turned out to be a plastic button, was easily removed.

Our Community Veterinary Clinic wasn’t officially open yet, but we wanted Violet to get the care she needed without breaking this family apart. Thanks to our reduced rates, Violet was able to go home with Melanie.

It’s our community’s solidarity that makes happy endings like this possible.

A different model

Private veterinary clinics have considerable expenses for human resources, infrastructure, equipment and material, maintenance, medication and other costs. These clinics’ rates may be higher than ours, but they are fair. They simply reflect a different business model and a broader range of care.

Thanks to the support of generous people like you and the facilities we already have at our disposal, the Montreal SPCA will be able to offer certain services at a lower cost. To be efficient and use our resources carefully, our Community Veterinary Clinic will focus on the basic procedures that are in greatest demand and that utilize our staff’s expertise.
