Help us face the effects of a record-breaking year
In 2024, the number of surrenders at the Montreal SPCA continued to rise, up 13.15%*.
*Compared to the previous year.
This troubling trend has actually been growing, up each year since 2020 and worsening as July 1 approaches. In just the first four months of 2025, we accepted 186 animals from families who had to move. And “moving season” hadn’t even started! So what’s causing the uptick? A tight rental market, leases banning animals and family finances strained by inflation.
The crisis is escalating. Animals need your support—urgently!
Together, let’s stand strong.

Maddie’s heart-wrenching story
Behind every surrender is a heart-wrenching decision and an animal torn from its family.
Maddie was recently entrusted to us by her human, who had to care for her sick father and was moving into a new rental that did not allow dogs.
Imagine the anguish of having to choose between caring for a loved one and keeping an animal companion!
Her human mom left with a shattered heart, holding onto the hope that Maddie would have a new life, with your help. And that’s exactly what happened. Thanks to the generosity of compassionate supporters like you, this sweet animal found a new loving family.
