Helping the most vulnerable

Together, let’s fight animal cruelty

Animals who come to the shelter after reports, investigations or seizures are often in a terrible state. These are the cases that place the greatest demands on our resources. Every minute counts for these animals in distress, and the attentive care we give them increases their chances of survival.

For a limited time: gifts to thank you!

Show your support for animal protection with pride! We have designed a refrigerator magnet with the number of our emergency hotline, as well as a sticker for a house or car window to publicly declare that you deeply care for animals and choose to walk alongside them.

Make a donation of at least $20 and receive a magnet and a sticker while supplies last. All donations help animals in need.

Recent cases that left an impression on our team

Valentin, brutalized and abandoned by his family in the street.

Scarred by his past, he was terrified to enter his foster family’s home after a walk. A few months later, as we continue our investigation, Valentin is gradually learning to relax.

Linus was in critical condition, so emaciated he couldn’t stand up.

Our clinical team worked hard to treat him, and this brave dog made a spectacular recovery. Two suspects have been charged with animal cruelty and face up to five years in prison.

Dandelion and Thistle, left outside in a small cage just before Christmas.

Both cats had matted and soiled coats, and their eyes were in such poor condition that our vets had to remove them. Dandelion and Thistle are recovering from their ordeals together in their adoptive family.

Because we received a report in each of these situations, our Investigations Division was able to intervene quickly and open a case. Valentin, Linus, Dandelion, Thistle and so many others are now safe, and those charged with their suffering will face justice.

Investigations Division: rescuing animals in distress

The Montreal SPCA’s Investigations Division is tasked with enforcing the laws that protect animals. Its involvement in cases involving regulatory offences is supported by the Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ).

However, it’s public donations that enable the SPCA to fund the Investigations Division’s enforcement of the Criminal Code, which applies to the most serious cases of cruelty or neglect. We need your help to take abused animals under our wing and ensure that investigations are carried out diligently.
